As modern people involved in a contemporary life track, we usually forget the impact that simple actions can make. For example, when we go through our day from home to work and back, we often lose sight of what a lending ear, a kind word, a comforting hug, or a warm smile might mean for someone else.
What is the story behind this day?
Since 1995, on February 17, we have observed National Random Acts of Kindness Day. The primary idea of this day is to make the world a little better and brighter through small, kind gestures, actions, and words. This celebration originated in Denver, Colorado, and has been catching fire nationwide and overseas.

The purpose of Random Acts of Kindness Day
Many people enjoy doing simple acts of kindness. It may seem like you are doing something small, but how it impacts others is gratifying. Individuals and organizations around the country celebrate National Random Acts of Kindness Day to inspire others every day. These acts not only bring joy to the receiver, but they also spread positivity to the giver.

The Random Acts of Kindness Foundation is a non-profit organization founded on the belief that kindness is not a mere action to perform one day but that doing random acts of kindness can and should be done every day.
Volunteering is one of the biggest acts of kindness
There is no more extraordinary act of kindness for our hospice patients and us than volunteering. At Ascend Hospice Care, we observe this celebration day by calling our community to action. We always look for caring and committed individuals who want to volunteer for hospice care.
We embrace kindness every day
We strive to provide extra comfort, dignity, and love to our patients with progressive illnesses. Volunteers can dedicate as much time as their schedule permits, and your kind help will be very welcome. If you are interested in spending time with our patients or helping them with daily tasks, please, call us or fill out the volunteer application.
