In her years of nursing in various positions she learned the pride of being able to care for people in a time of need. She now leads Ascend Hospice to honor her parents. She wanted to provide an alternative that let people stay in their home. Leading the team of clinicians at Ascend Hospice, she does just that providing love and care during this sacred time of life.

Amanda recently began working here and though she was hesitant at going into the hospice field because of the negative misconception, she has come to love and appreciate all that comes along with it.

“I love knowing that we are making a difference when it counts. The love and compassion that I see among our clinical, administrative, and chaplain is unexplainable”.

After my mother and dad’s passing. I knew I wanted to be by those going through this journey with their loved one. Being there for support to others going through the journey of this phase of life was a choice I chose. To give comfort, support and love to those in need.

“Laura has a long career in nursing and nursing administration. Working in a variety of contexts from Home Nursing, Med/Surgery, Acute Care, Neonatal ICU, and nursing homes. She enjoys her role as a DoN because it allows her to educate and care for the nursing staff, helping the nurses in the field to be supported, encouraged, and resourced.

Laura and her husband, a truck driver, have 7 kids from the age of 6 to 22 that keep her busy with dance, football, and keeping them out of trouble (including her husband). Her mother-in-law also lives with them so the family can support her and her needs as a senior. This helps Laura stay grounded and understand just what our hospice families and patients are going through.”

Sara grew up in Wisconsin graduating from the University of Wisconsin with a degree in Sociology and Social Work. She followed her family down to Houston where she earned a Master’s degree in Social Work from the University of Houston, studying with Brene’ Brown.

As a child Sara experienced both of her grandmother’s health decline with them living in her home. This gave her natural interest in senior health and ignited her passion to walk with others during this time of life. She herself later found herself a widow at a young age, now being the one dealing with grief herself. So Sara brings a solid academic background and a rich personal experience with grief and loss.

Ashton grew up in Chambers County graduating from East Chambers High School. She is the warm heart and smiling face of Ascend Hospice. When you call the office, she is the friendly voice; when you come in the office, she is a warm greeting.

She enjoys being part of a team that is transforming lives in such a practical way and does her best to keep everyone’s spirits strong. Ashton lives with her 3 kids, 3 dogs, 2 cats, chickens, and turkey’s on what she calls her “Funny Farm.”
